WEBINAR OBJECTIVES/LEARNING OUTCOMES

Participants will be introduced to MERLOT – a collection of digital learning resources and a community of faculty and academic staff who share interests in effective teaching and learning using technology.  They will learn how to search and discover interactive multimedia resources in MERLOT within their respective disciplines for online course development.  Participants will:

A. learn to search, browse and find materials in MERLOT and learn to save these in Personal Collections.

B. understand the MERLOT Peer Review Process and its evaluation standards regarding Quality of Content, Potential Effectiveness for Teaching and Learning, and Ease of Use.

C. understand the modalities for integrating MERLOT in course design.

Dr. Cathy Swift, Director - Academic Partner Services

r. Cathy O, Swift is the Director of Academic Partner Services at MERLOT.  She received a B.S. in Marketing at Penn State, MBA at Indiana University, and Ph.D. at University of North Texas.  She has published over 30 journal articles and numerous proceedings.  Until four years ago, she was a Professor of Marketing at Georgia Southern University and received the Outstanding Georgia WebMBA Faculty Award, College of Business Administration Award for Sustained Excellence, College of Business Administration Professor of the Year Award, University Award for Teaching Excellence and COBA Award for Teaching Excellence.  She has worked part time on MERLOT since 1999 as Editor of the Business discipline as well as Manager of the Editorial Boards.  She started working full time on the MERLOT project in June 2006.  Her research interests are in the areas of online teaching, teaching pedagogy and international business.

Dr. Moustapha Diack is affiliated with the doctoral program in Science/Mathematics Education (SMED) at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Diack is recipient of the International MERLOT Innovation Award 2009 -and- the 2009 Southern University Teacher of the Year Award. He is a Past-President (2006/2009) of the Louisiana Academy of Sciences and also Director of the MERLOT Africa Network (MAN). His current research is in the areas of Open Education Resources (OER) and Open Access (OA) as well as the integration and assessment of virtual learning environments (VLE).

Diack is Quality Matters/MarylandOnline certified train the trainer  (TTT).

Ms. Cher Crockett is current President of the SUBR Graduate Students Association and a doctoral student in the Ph.D. program in Science/Math Education at Southern University A& M College. Her research interests include online professional development & virtual learning environments. 

Ms. Kanika Vessel is a doctoral student in the Ph.D. program in Science/Math Education at Southern University A& M College. Her research interests are in engineering education and virtual learning environments.
